Well, if you’re anything like me, its taken a few weeks into this new year to get back into the swing of things. 2012 is here and now we got to get on with it!
At the beginning of a new year – what’s the best thing to do? Set goals for ourselves – personally, financially and for your career. I have always been a goal setter but one thing I have not consistently done is WRITE THEM DOWN! Sure they are in my mind but what happens with that? Ummm….. I forget. By writing down our goals and posting them up or keeping them in a scribbler you refer to everyday, you are constantly reminded of what you want to accomplish – daily, weekly, monthly and for the year. And it doesn’t have to stop there – you can also write down your goals for every five years and even for your lifetime! I have several goals that I want to accomplish this year and to help me accomplish some of my goals for my music career, I decided to sign up for a CHALLENGE. I am a member of the Songwriters Association of Canada (if you are a songwriter you should become a member – http://www.songwriters.ca/) and in last December’s newsletter, there was an invitation to sign up for “Music Success in Nine Weeks” with Ariel Hyatt. With this challenge, there are weekly modules that participants need to work on and by the following Monday, participants are to post a blog about the module for that week. So, this is week one and its about, you got it, GOAL SETTING. Because my music career is going into a new level this year, I have never set so many goals in my life! And you know what? It’s empowering! I have a lot of work to do but I’m excited! I can’t wait to record my first single and promote it to radio and sell it on iTunes, CDBaby and other retailers that I use. I can’t wait to get out there and perform it for my fans! And those are the easy parts! The hard part is all the work that goes into making those things happen. And how do I make those happen? I set GOALS, I face my CHALLENGES which I know will result in SUCCESS. And we have success every day! And how do we know? By reflecting on our day which is another part of this week’s module - to write down at the end of the day at least five victories. For example, today I went to bootcamp, did a telephone interview with Patrice from http://www.countrymusicjunkies.com/, went for a walk, talked to my producer about my potential studio dates and worked on my goal setting. Yay for me!
2012 is going to be a great year.
Next week is “Your perfect Pitch” and it has nothing to do with singing.
