Wow! I've been so busy I forgot to blog! I need to fill you in on what I've been up to.
At the end of June, I attended the Vancouver Island Music Business Conference in Courtenay, BC where I had a showcase. An opportunity to 'strut my stuff' for fellow artists and for people in the music business industry. My band and I performed a 40 minute set and I 'wowed' a lot of people. That makes me very happy. Having that showcase opportunity and being able to perform my music and to let people see what I'm all about, has opened up some new doors for me - some great opportunities that will help advance my career.
After being in Courtenay for five days, my husband and I came home only to do laundry and get ready for my first tour. We got home Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning, we were heading out towards Athabasca, Alberta. On July 1st, I had the privilege to perform at the Magnificent Riverrats Festival along with other artists like Jordan Rody, Coppermountain String Band, Craig Moritz, Hey Romeo, Jason Blaine and Dean Brody. All of which was MC'd by Danny Hooper. Then, we played for a private party at my cousin's house to celebrate her daughter's accomplishment of becoming a pharmacist. That was a great night and fun! Off we traveled to Peace River, Alberta - my home town. It was awesome to be so welcomed home and to have my girlfriends Cara and Shelley (that I used to sing with) join me on stage. It was a memorable evening. But, there was no time for partying after the show. We were up early and on the road and headed back into southern BC to Merritt for the Merritt Mountain Music festival where the boys and I performed in the Pumphouse Saloon. I also performed in the Songwriter's Circle which was sponsored by Music BC and the BC Country Music Association. That night, and for two nights after that, we played in the infamous 'Cactus Annies' at the Merritt Desert Inn. There was no time for sleeping in Sunday morning as we had to pack up and head off to Calgary, Alberta for our performance at the Calgary Stampede - Window on the West Stage. After that, we relaxed for a few days in Vernon and then headed home. 5400 km in 12 days. What a rush! I was complimented after every performance, treated like gold and met a lot of new and great people. Makes me want to buy a motorhome and just travel and entertain. We took lots of pictures and you can view them by going to my website http://www.shellydubois.com, click 'Gallery' and then click on Summer 2011.
Now that I've rested, I've got lots of paperwork to catch up on. AND practice AND do some more performances! Check my show listings on my web site for what's coming up next!
