If you know me, or if you have visited my website, www.shelly-dubois.com, you would know that I lost my 20 year old daughter, Chantal to brain cancer almost three years ago. She fought an incredibly brave fight for two years and I will never forget her incredible strength through it all. To watch your own child suffer such pain is something no parent should have to endure.
At the end of May, I was invited to perform at a fundraiser called “Journey On” to help raise funds for cancer patient comforts and care. Other performers included Angela Kelman (former lead singer of Farmer’s Daughter), Chad Brownlee, Hayley McLean, Todd Richard, Rachel Chatoor, Kylee Epp, Emily Taylor Adams and many more. Funds raised that evening totalled $7500.00 which will be used to purchase comfortable chairs for the chemo unit in Surrey, BC.
In a few weeks, I will be performing at the Vancouver Island Music Business Conference in Courtenay, BC where I have a ‘showcase’ – an opportunity to perform for many people in the music industry which include producers, publishers and labels. I am dedicating my showcase to my charity in memory of my daughter, the “Chantal Dubois Memorial Fund” – a fund to help families financially that have a child battling cancer. I will have invitations in every delegate bag inviting conference delegates to attend my showcase where I will have a donation box available if people so choose to donate. All funds raised will go to a family either in the Courtenay area or another community here on Vancouver Island. During my showcase, I will also perform my song “I Know You’re Here” which you can listen to by clicking on this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_bycCI6dhw. I definitely want to record this song on my next album.
